Key Priorities for Springfield Schools

Strong Schools. Stronger Neighborhoods.

Every policy I support starts with one core belief: that investing in our schools is how we build a stronger Springfield — together.

As a public servant, policy professional, and longtime Springfield resident, I’m running for School Committee to deliver real, results-driven solutions for our schools. My priorities reflect the needs I’ve seen firsthand — from youth outreach and reentry services to workforce development and classroom support.

Academic Excellence & Career Readiness

Career readiness isn’t just about job skills—it’s about prevention, opportunity, and public safety.

  • Explore age-appropriate career and vocational awareness programs beginning in middle school, preparing students early for future opportunities.
  • Partner with local unions, small businesses, and community colleges to offer hands-on career exploration.
  • Set high standards for student achievement, literacy, and graduation rates.

Invest in Safe, Supportive Schools

A supportive school environment must also prioritize safety—for every student and staff member, every day.

  • Support robust mental health services and social-emotional programs.
  • Promote restorative justice practices that minimize suspensions while ensuring student accountability and growth.
  • Advocate for responsible school safety measures, effective emergency preparedness, and balanced school-police partnerships that prioritize safety without compromising student trust.

Youth Engagement & Positive Opportunities

Students need more than just school-day learning—they deserve safe spaces, mentorship, and creative enrichment all year round.

  • Expand access to after-school activities, athletics, arts programming, and summer employment.
  • Collaborate with local nonprofits, faith-based groups, and community centers to increase program accessibility.
  • Advocate for sustained funding at both state and local levels to grow these critical youth services.

Support Educators & School Staff

Great outcomes depend on investing in the educators and staff who deliver them every day.

  • Advocate for fair wages, professional development opportunities, and essential classroom resources.
  • Strengthen the recruitment and retention pipeline to diversify our educator workforce.
  • Ensure staff have the tools and support needed to address student behavior compassionately and safely.

Promote Transparency & Accountability

Families must be included—not locked out—of school decisions. I’ll work tirelessly to restore that trust.

  • Commit to open, regular, and accessible communication with families and the broader public.
  • Ensure transparency in budgeting and actively invite community input before significant financial decisions.
  • Learn from the superintendent search process to guarantee openness, fairness, and meaningful community participation moving forward.
